Innovation Hub, Pushpa Gujral Science City jointly with Grassroots Innovations Augmentation Network (GIAN) organized Science Fest 2020 to promote innovation and creativity amongst the school students through development of working models in the various fields of Science & Technology. More than 200 students from different schools of Punjab participated with their interactive innovative models. In view of Covid pandemic, the Science Fest 2020 was organized in an online mode. In the Science Fest first prize has been achieved Namia Joshi from Satpal Mital School Ludhiana (Project is Sustainable world is =Better World) second prize won by Mr. Ritash Kapur from B.C.M Sector 32,Chandigarh(Project is Techno Kit against Covid-19),Third Prize clinched by Nimrat Kaur from Govt. Senior Secondary 3-B, Mohali (Project is My Smart Dustbin )
Dr. Neelima Jerath, Director General, Science City speaking at this occasion said that innovations can bring competitiveness amidst globalization. In the modern era, innovative and creative minds dominate since they bring desired results to make complex processes simple, easy and economical. Therefore, only innovative ideas can lead to new products, technologies, opportunities and ensure sustainable growth. The innovation Hub project set up at PGSC is working towards achieving these objectives so as to promote innovativeness in the Northern Region of the country.
Dr. Soumik Siddhanta, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi delivered a talk on Small world, Big Ideas: The future of Nano Technology. He said that Nano technology is an emerging field and is creating many new materials and devices with a vast range of applications in areas ranging from Agriculture, Medicine to Energy and Environment. He informed that Govt. of India is taking many new initiatives to promote Nano technology, therefore, major Nano Electronic Centers of international standards have been established at premier institutes in the country. Further, he demonstrated how to make gold and silver Nano particles and their exciting applications.
Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, PGSC said that Science & its application are the essential means to develop our capacity to meet our needs. He emphasized that today innovation is a crucial survival issue and there is serious need to build scientific temper and sustain our infrastructures that support innovation. Further, PGSC is organizing annual Science fest to provide a platform to enable students to showcase their creativity through Science Projects/Models.
